Fundraiser · Keep it free
Keep Lietner free for every student, forever.
I built a flashcard app when I should have been studying. Now I'd like to keep it free, ad-free and online for anyone who needs it.
Where it came from
I'm Ahmed. I was procrastinating on my own exams, so I did what any reasonable student does and built a flashcard app instead. My girlfriend was studying too, and I wanted us to spend less time making cards and more time learning them.
It worked, so I put it online for everyone.
Five boxes, one idea
Lietner is built on the Leitner system. Five boxes sit on a little 3D desk. Cards you know move up a box and come back less often. Cards you miss go straight back to box 1.

What you know fades into the background. What you keep forgetting shows up until it sticks.
No card-making
You don't write cards from scratch. The app has a ready-made prompt: paste it into your favourite AI along with your notes or PDF, answer three quick questions, and it writes about 30 cards for you. Paste them back and your deck is ready in minutes.
My promise
- It is free, and it will always be free.
- It will never have ads.
- No account needed. Your cards stay on your device unless you choose to sync.
- Open source (MIT), so anyone can check what it does.
Yes, the method is spelled Leitner and I spelled the app Lietner. It's a typo I've decided to keep.
Why I'm asking
Keeping something free and ad-free doesn't make it free to run. Today Lietner fits inside free tiers, but as more students use it, that stops being true. I don't want to solve that with ads or a paywall, because that would break the promise above.
What your donation covers
- Hosting and the domain (lietner.app)
- The database for optional sync between devices
- Email delivery for sign-in codes
- Crash reporting, so bugs get fixed
Can't donate? Sharing it with a classmate helps just as much.
Thank you. Now go review your cards.
